1 8 years into his career and Drake is still the face of the rap industry setting trends with every step he takes.

Early last month Drake dropped a link to a website called 100 Gigs. To fans’ surprise, there were 100 gigabytes of never-before-seen media. All are available for free to the public.

This direct-to-consumer model allows Drake to give fans content in a way the music industry hasn’t seen. Instead of waiting on labels and management to approve songs and media, Drake cut out the middleman and decided to do things himself. That’s what’s most intriguing about this whole thing.

Artists who are constantly fighting with their labels can look at what Drake is doing and take inspiration. An artist lives and dies by their fan base so why not do everything they can to strengthen that relationship. Even if artists lock their content behind a subscription or exclusive website I believe this direct-to-consumer format benefits both the artist and the fans. The artist can control what’s put out and the fans get to enjoy the content

Drake has built his legacy on consistency, hard work, and never failing to provide his fans with new content. Drake puts out projects at a rate never before seen and his newest endeavor is no different, potentially changing the way artists feed their fans forever
